Foggy Day

It is really foggy out there today...even with the sun brightening the clouds, it was gray and other worldly as I drove the kids to the bus stop. I remember the weather people saying something about fog with the warmer temps, they were right. This really makes our street look like Fall...damp yellow and brown leaves, fog rolling around and just the right earthy smell of this time of year. Sometimes, it makes you feel like time is an illusion and you've stepped back a hundred years. I guess that's the fog blotting out all the telephone lines and making everyone drive slower (making things have a sense of quiet about them).

Once it warms up, we might go for a walk. I have a lot to do (mainly, get some treats for the kids classes), tend to the little Mr., finish up more art projects, chores and set up an appointment to have Odie's beak trimmed (again). I have to go and get more wood, as well. I've found that the harder woods are much better for small carvings. I ended up painting the last batch instead of carving. I enjoyed this tremendously as I've been using acrylic paints (instead of watercolor). For me, it's a lot of fun to add layer over layer without worrying about color seeping into on. Yes, it's a bit boring when it comes to "accidental" mistakes, but it's different and after having given acrylic a break, it's fun to rediscover it again.

I'm still doing watercolor...just really loving the wood paintings/carvings. Plus, I can make something in a 3 dimensional feel rather than, flat surface. My ornaments (or ornies)are really cute. I need to submit 3 to an on-line magazine. I'm going to add them to my portfolio as well. It's all good! :)

Also, the last batch I made (something like 12) were accepted to the local art gallery, Art 4. This always makes my day! :)

I'm planning to make handmade individual Christmas cards. I have to find the perfect envelops to go with the cards. I don't want to make those by hand too...though, I have some ideas that might be really cute/interesting. Well, I've got to get off of here and do something productive (like painting, child care and chores).

Have a great day!

Phew! That's what she has and not strep rash. We did at-home pre-school and never did daycare, so we skipped all these germs apparently. She's older for getting this viral infection. She's actually feeling much better and the doctor said she can do some activities today. So, we'll probably try the pumpkin festival and take it easy the rest of the day. I'm very happy it's nothing more serious and we can just give her lotion to make her skin not so dry/scratchy. Thank, God!

emotional week of up's and down's

It's amazing when you feel like things are going well and suddenly, everyone starts getting sick. First, it was me and my allergies/migraine headache. That brought me down for 2 days and made it very hard to get through 3 days of the week. By Friday evening, I finally felt some mental relief. Today was the first day I didn't wake up with a pounding headache, thank God.

All this time, my second kid feeling bad and I think it's the common cold. Slight fever but by the time it's time to go to school, she feels fine. She was grumpy all week and I was like, what's with the tears?? By Friday evening, she's crying again (can't find her backpack)...that's when I see this sort of purple spots on her face. I'm like, "oh, my God! You've cried so much you've broken blood vessels on your face!" And start putting a damp rag on her checks. Then, I see she's got spots/rash all over her face, ears...and on the chest and back. Poor baby!!

I call everyone like mad and everyone is out or getting back or needs to have a message left. My poor mom-in-law is having a bad time with her heart meds and I'm like, where is everyone?

So, Jon finally gets home and we're waiting to get a response from the doctor. All sorts of things are going through my head...chickenpox, measles. My mom-in-law (the retired RN suggests rosela) and when the doctor hears the symptoms, she's like strep rash. It's not as bad as I thought...though it is scarlet fever from a different time. Obviously, we aren't as ill as that problem due to better health conditions/immunizations.

Now, my eldest is starting to cough and be grumpy. I'm just glad that I'm feeling better to help everyone...it seems like the whole house falls apart whenever I get sick. Crazy.

I feel a cleaning binge about to start...it's partially the coffee and feeling better. I'll take it easy (mom).

The sad thing is we are missing on a playdate, the Pumpkin Festival in Hollidaysburg, a basketball practice, the choir (missed that last night) and a party tomorrow evening. I hope we make it to church for the blessing from the Bishop as I'm getting confirmed. Sigh...

What a difference a walk makes!

I was feeling sort of blah and tired...even with all the sunshine pouring out of the skies. I realized I didn't take my usual walk w/the doggies and kids, so we went for a nice 15 minute one. Next thing I know, I feel SO MUCH BETTER. It was just the medicine I needed.

All day long I've been having this weird eye twitch. Jon said if you have a slight infection (like my ear) this could be why. So, I'll take it as that as I was starting to worry that I was stressing out or it was a symptom of something worse. Silly me.

I was feeling a bit down as I had a big box of art work that I had finished up and wanted to display. Tait Farm was kind enough to take 4 pieces and I was nervous about where to show next. Art4 Gallery in Hollidaysburg took the rest of the entire box! I am thrilled and now, I need to make more stuff! Hopefully, sales will follow and I can really be pleased with things moving along.

I'm also looking for some places to find part-time work in the evening. This will help to cover the basics and I can start to save up for upcoming art shows (as in renting a space for next year).

I'm also thinking of subbing again. I'd request only Monday's or Fridays as I think this would be all right for childcare (this is the big dilemma with working full time or during the day...who's going to do the child care/pickup stuff?). That's why I've been very reluctant to do outside work. The cost of good childcare usually out weights the paycheck one gets. Hence, I'm better off at home, money wise. However, if things move the way I hope, next year might be very different (in a good way). :) This probably wouldn't be such a problem if Jon worked closer, but there is no change in that department. Oh, well...

Geesh, I cannot tell you how much better I feel after that walk...just so funny, how this can make a difference. :) Wish I could funnel in some of the sunlight into my basement studio!

Gorgeous day!

And I didn't snap a single outside picture...what was I thinking?? Tomorrow is supposed to be lovely...I will definitely photograph various little critters and little Gottshall's running around. lol

All that sun...we did lots of playing outside and I seemed to manage to step in several dog poo's while cleaning them up. Wonderful. I really hate that...esp. when I made sure to check everyone else's shoes (but my own) and proceeded to wear them in the house. YUCK!!!

Other news, I did take pics of our pets (inside) for a last minute entry for the Martha Stewart Halloween Contest. Here's Penny Olive as "The Fairy Queen"

She wouldn't hold still when Mr. Nelson was in the room as he wanted to be in the shoot too. Every time I said "on the chair" he would jump up. Silly, Mr. Nelson. Here's a pic of here is an outtake from the shoot.

Early weekend.

This is the day before we had a huge storm (and it flooded my basement). I guess we're not in the right latitude for that old saying, "RED SKY IN MORNING, SAILORS WARNING; RED SKY AT NIGHT, SAILORS DELIGHT." It's still fun to think about, however.

We're always on the go, over here!

(please don't mind the slightly skewed photo...if I look too long at Penny, she run's up to me. Hence, the hasty pic)

The gals have tomorrow off and we're just going to kick back. Nothing planned and most likely just hang out, do some art and go for walks. Maybe make some baked goods if it's chilly and enjoy a quiet day. :)

I made some cute primitive style flowers for my front door. I need to photograph them, they came out really cute.

Here's some stuff I did with yo-yo's.

I made several gifts in a heart shape.

At the Great Insect Fair in State College:

I was going to download the hissing cockroach but for some reason it wouldn't. So, you're safe!

I should go to bed...and I will, right after I type up this. Just thought I'd touch base as I've been busy lately. Mostly, I've been going to bed by 9pm, hence less journaling. It's all this rain, flooded basements and getting over ear aches. So very annoying on one hand, just a part of life, on the other.

Supposed to warm up by the end of the week (hurray!). I got to talk to my mom for an hour (hurray!) and found out my dad is in OK visiting his sister, my aunt. Wow. For a man who is blind in one eye, over 70 and has his set ways, he sure gets around! Good for him! :)

I felt bad for my dog, Penny and have her wearing Mr. Nelson's old red coat. I need to make her one (girly).

In the meantime, I think I'm headed off to bed. I was hoping to watch a Dr. Who, but just can't stay awake. I miss those late nights with Jon. Oh, well. Well, figure out something during the weekend.

insect fair in state college and then some

We had a really great time with the kids today. My second kid, N, brought her pal along and we shared the fun. It was a lot movement and people mashed in there with lots of bug...but you have to be the kind of person that is all right with kids and bugs to be there in the first place. So, most people were like, "this is cool!" I know I was. I think I really had a hard time leaving the tadpoles...they were really cute. And N's friend was like I'll hold anything! She held the hissing roach, looked at all the bugs. More so then my gals! It was pretty amazing to see the displays of the preserved insects...some seemed like art works.

Earlier in the day, my eldest, L, went off to practice basketball. I hope she enjoys it (actually, I already know she does). It was a good day.

Only thing, we didn't make it to the art gallery (we were going to show some new art) and so, we had to make it for next Saturday. :( But that does give me time to finish some more work to show. Considering, I just got over being sick, have had a flood in the basement and various setbacks when it comes to finding art time, it's a nice chance to get my self organized. :) phew!

Now, I just need to make some food for tomorrow's after church meal, finish up a present for my mom-in-law and get the dogs ready for the Blessing of the animals. Tomorrow is a bit busy, I guess! lol It's all good.
