The Good, The Bad and the darn pretty day...

First things first, Daisy our pet rat is going to be fine! We went to the vet and Daisy definitely has allergies. I've put her into private confinement (thanks, Island girl) and I think she'll be all right. She got a steroid shot (we could really hear her scream in the hall, poor baby) and we have to call in on Monday if she's still got open sores and is itchy. Otherwise, she's fine. Phew!

In other news, I submitted some work to an art group only to be tossed aside like yesterdays news. They even wrote to my husband (instead of me...shows how much attention they gave my stuff...hmph). Anyway, I'll submitt again next month and in the mean time, submit to at least 50 other companies. I am determined, folks. And yes, it hurts your pride but what is pride, anyway? It's better to keep that Frank Sinatra song in your head...the one my mom first told me about...

Thats life, thats what people say.
Youre riding high in april,
Shot down in may.
But I know Im gonna change that tune,
When Im back on top in june.
Thats life, funny as it seems.
Some people get their kicks,
Steppin on dreams;
But I dont let it get me down,
cause this ol word keeps getting around.

Ive been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
Ive been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

Thats life, I cant deny it,
I thought of quitting,
But my heart just wont buy it.
If I didnt think it was worth a try,
Id roll myself up in a big ball and die

I esp. like the line "Each time I find myself flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race" I can just hear Sinatra singing that...ah, so true.

Oddly, I found the original song while looking up this classic...I think I like it just as much:

Lyrics by: Dorothy Fields
Music by: Jerome Kern

From the Film: Swing Time (1936)

Don't lose your confidence if you slip,
Be grateful for a pleasant trip,
And pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off,
Start all over again.

Work like a soul inspired,
Till the battle of the day is won.
You may be sick and tired,
But you'll be a man, my son!

Will you remember the famous men,
Who had to fall to rise again?
So take a deep breath,
Pick yourself up,
Dust yourself off,
Start all over again.

I like that the original uses some of Rupard Kiplings poem "If".

Started reading "If" and must say, I'm very glad for writers like these. I have several books of quotes. One I can't recall the name of but was a found book...apparently, someone in the 60's was in a hospital and they would give these beautiful gold puffy books to their patients. It's rather large too and has some odd/interesting illustrations from the 50's/60's. I also have a little book of quotes from 1924 called "The Book of Courage: A little book of brave thoughts". This gets me through tough spots too.

Here's a good one from the "Book of Courage" Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength. -Anon

And my all time favorite:

"I can't do it" never yet accomplished anything; "I will try"
has performed wonders. - George P. Burnham

Oh, and it's a beautiful day! :)

Very nice poem! :) I have to say, though, that I laughed out loud when I saw the words "pet rat"! Never heard that before.
Have a good week end!
