******In memory of Todd Sparks*******

Todd Sparks past away on December 18th 2005, 2 am. He went to our church and had been suffering from cancer and pain. He loved the Wizard of Oz and gave a sermon about it one Sunday. Here is what I wrote on his sermon in July:

"This week is Unitarian Sunday...We had a speaker, Todd Sparks, talk about "The Wizard of Oz" and how we all wear ruby slippers. Our ruby slippers are our spark and our "what makes you special". Don't take off the ruby slippers and let someone else have them. Or as Mr. Sparks so eloquently said "Never let those ruby slippers off your feet. Never give up your passion, your individuality, your uniqueness, your spirit, your inner spark..." ".

Good-bye, Todd. We will miss you. You truly had a spark of passion and creativity.

We're going to be making a donation in his name to the Cancer society. Cancer is were we should be fighting a war...

i have no cable service so I watch almost no TV, my kids are smarter for the lack of time wasting TV shows. We are fighting a war against cancer and against terror, we need to battle both.

That's great about not watching TV. Kids are definitely smarter and more inventive.

All I know for sure is we need to love our nieghbors...not wage war with them.

Pros of putting money for cancer research: children/people will be free of this disease.

Cons: None

Pros of putting money for war:
None

Cons: Kills innocent children, makes the ground polluted, continues to hurt people, kills troops and injures them.

Peace should be our goal. Peace and healing. Take care.
You are so right, Emily...I read your comment about the Pro's And Cons of Fighting Cancer and/or Fighting WAr....SOOOOO True, what you said....

I love the things your friend said about the ruby slippers...It's GREAT advice on every leval, isn't it? I'm sorry you lost him and what you wrote is a lovely tribute to him. Bless You. And Bless Him Too,

Being from Kansas, I can't tell you how many times I've watched the Wizard of Oz. Now when I think of it, I will remember something totally different. Thanks.

And thanks for stopping by and commenting on my blog. I love readers!! You'd think I'd post more often!

Thank you, Joyce. I'm glad Todds words could give a deeper meaning to Oz. He did this for me as well.

Emily you go girl! Way to speak!..;-) very proud of your courage to speak(rather write) your mind. I agree with what you have said. No pro's in war not worth any of it..not better off not at all in any way when you really think about it..so many dead civilian Iraqi's! I was wondering when they would start announcing how many of them have died,(over 30,000 so far) so Bush finally did, very "hesitantly" I might add. Along with the amount of American troops death count we must not forget the much higher Iraqi civilian deaths also. Innocent children, women and men...Iraqi civilian lives are just as important as any human life..when are we going to get that life is precious for all of us not just "some"?..

Thanks for having the courage to share your thoughtful insightful remarks.

Blessings,
Rhiannon

I went to Shenandoah Conservatory and one of my most wonderful friends was named Todd Sparks. I went to his house and had a wonderful time with his family. I lost touch with him after graduation and tonight while going through TV channels th Wizard of Oz came on. I did a google search and I'm hoping this is not the same Todd Sparks who passed away. Please contact me at syoungblood@esumc.org and let me know.
