Time...

That is what this life is about. Time and what we make of it. Do we do our best to fight for causes that benefit people? Do we spend time ignoring the needs of others and use our time to make ourselves feel good? These questions seem to follow me every day. Blame it on being raised as a protestant with good helpings of guilt, or what not, but in the end these are basic principles of life. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. The golden rule goes beyond religions and translates to people across the seas. Be kind. Be loving, if you can. This isn't the same as not making waves and challenging people to think beyond what they know.

  • Gandhiwrote, "I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man [woman] whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him [her]. Will he [she] gain anything by it? Will it restore him [her] to a control over his [her] own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to swaraj [freedom] for the hungry and spiritually starving millions?
Then you will find your doubts and your self melt away."

This feeling of letting go of our own problems and seeing that we can create change to help those around us, is always there. Gandhi said it better then I could ever express it. His life was filled with protest and with peace.
